A look at the range of brick specials we offer including plinths, angles, corners and capping's.

Introduction to Brick Specials

Special shaped bricks are purpose-designed and manufactured in unique profiles to meet specific architectural, structural, or aesthetic requirements. Whether it’s creating elegant curves, sharp corners, intricate arches, or clean junctions, these specially formed bricks provide the flexibility needed to bring ambitious architectural visions to life. From heritage restorations to cutting-edge contemporary designs, these brick types enhance both the form and function of a new building.

Plinth Bricks

One of the most popular special shaped bricks that we supply in our range are Plinth Bricks.

Plinth bricks are uniquely designed bricks with a 45-degree angled face, making them ideal for transitions and depth changes in brickwork. This angled design not only adds a distinct architectural visual element but also serves a protective purpose for the overall brickwork, acting as a barrier between the wall and the ground. By deflecting rainwater and moisture away from the wall surface, plinth bricks help prevent dampness, staining, and structural damage caused by prolonged water exposure.

In addition to the protective qualities for the brickwork, plinth bricks are also used to highlight architectural details such as Window sills and corbelling features.

The Traditional Brick & Stone range of plinths are supplied in a range of different sizes as standard including:

PL.2 - Plinth Headers.

PL.3 - Plinth Stretchers

PL.4 - Plinth Internal Return - Long

PL.6 - Plinth Internal Angle

PL.7 & PL.8 - Plinth External Return

PL.9 - Plinth Squint

Sizes and details can be found on our brick specials page.

Angled & Cant Bricks.

Angle brick specials are specially shaped bricks that allow brickwork to form smooth and precise turns at 30°, 45° and 60° angles.  Angled bricks are provided in various shapes and sizes and are used in cladding projects where they form defined edges on brickwork corners, arches and window features.

Cant bricks are used to create angled details around doors windows and corners in brickwork.  They add both a decorative and functional touch to masonry designs.

Bullnose Bricks

Bullnose bricks are typically used to soften the visual aesthetics on walls and feature at least one smooth round edge on the side of the bricks.  These bricks contribute to design flexibility and offer protection to the corner of buildings.

Copings and Capping's

Brick Copings and Capping's are decorative bricks that are used to sit on the top of parapet or walls that are freestanding such as boundary walls.  These bricks also offer a form of protection to the brickwork and are often selected as an alternative to cast stone copings.

Soldier and Pistol Bricks

A pistol brick takes its name from a specially shaped brick that is cut into a pistol shape.  These bricks provide a clean, sharp finish in corners and also help to visually hide metalwork that is used for support in construction.

Soldier bricks are laid vertically and add a decorative linear effect that breaks up the visuals of traditional brickwork and are most commonly used in framing windows.

Solider Brickwork

Brick Type: Autrique.

Brick Slips

Brick slips are becoming more popular for external cladding and interior renovation projects.  Brick slips, also known as brick tiles are simply a standard clay brick that is thinly cut and used as a cladding feature on walls and facades.

Common uses for brick slips include feature walls, fire surrounds, kitchens, bathrooms and commercial spaces.

The Traditional Brick & Stone group features a bespoke brick cutting facility based in the north of the UK, that can both cut slips from clay bricks and have a large stock range to provide a nationwide delivery service with industry leading turnaround times.
